Parent Training

Because There Is No Book That Prepares Us For This.

Maybe you are young and in love, and have a vision that you are going to be the most amazing parent to the perfect child. You are so excited to be a mom or a dad….you think- parenting is going to be so much fun.

You wonder what you are going to teach your child….all the things you want to show him or her. You envision how you want your child to be…

All the things you want to do as a parent, and all the things you DON’T want to do. You will make sure to have all the answers. You will make sure to be there ALL the time.

You will tuck your child into bed EVERY night. You will not raise you voice because you say to yourself that you will of course always try to keep your composure.
You put this intense pressure on yourself to be financially successful, and emotionally stable. You will do anything to ensure that your child lives the best life that you can provide.

No One Has All The Answers.

You know that friend that makes everything seem so easy? Like they are never tired or scared or worried about their child? The one with the perfect Facebook page and Instagram posts with their perfect children smiling.

Guaranteed there are times that they are up at night just like you are worrying that their child is not eating the right foods, or getting enough sleep, or struggling with their friendships.

No parent has it all figured out. Now it the time for you to let go of the idea that everything is perfect.

Many parents feel shame when admitting that their child is having difficulties. Parents often take it personally as if it means that are at fault, like they are being judged, and they should take the blame.

Being a parent is the hardest job imaginable. In fact, I wonder if you might have times when you feel that going to your actual work is way more difficult than staying home with the kids. Maybe there are even times when you question whether or not you should have had children.

Your identity as a person is taking on a new meaning. Now, it is no longer about what is only best for you anymore. You have other people to take into consideration. That is a big transition to make when you are so used to just having to make decisions for yourself.
No matter where you come from, being a parent has it’s happy, amazing times, and it has it’s challenges. It is for sure, an emotional rollercoaster that can be very different than what you envisioned.

You Are Not Alone.

Many parents feel the same way that you do. It is completely normal to struggle with all the ups and downs of being a parent.
But with Apple Psychological’s help, you do not have to struggle alone. We are here to guide you, validate your struggle, and help you develop strategies to make your life easier.

Your therapist will provide a safe space for you that is free of guilt, shaming, or judgement. Our experience and expertise will provide you with the tools that you need to be the BEST parent that you can be to your child.

Therapy Process

When you schedule your session, you will be asked to fill out some intake paperwork to complete prior to your first session. This way, your therapist will have some information about you, and you can get right into how they can help support you and your family in the best way possible. Your therapist will create a safe space, allowing you to feel comfortable to express yourself freely. This trusting bond is what is essential to making progress.

Once you become aligned with your therapist, you will learn strategies to help your child identify their emotions, express their emotions effectively, and cope with strong emotions.

These important communication tools will replace your child’s harmful behavior such as acting out aggressively, being disrespectful, or having temper tantrums. You will learn to help your child get their needs met, and also to be heard, without having to take drastic measures.

You will also learn how to establish healthy morning and evening routines using a variety of helpful tools so that your child understands what to expect each day. Once you all understand and have a plan, everyone will feel accomplished, confident, and ready to take on the day. This will positively impact your child’s self-esteem, organizational skills, as well as their academic performance.

At Apple Psychological, you do not have to feel alone anymore. And most importantly, we work hard to help you connect with your child because we know as parents that there is nothing more that you want than to have a calm, happy, healthy family environment.

Through our parent training, you will learn the skills necessary to help your child regulate their emotions, learn healthy routines, address academic and executive functioning issues, and gain the confidence that you and your child needs to create and happy family environment.

I want To Give Parent Training A Chance But I Have Some Questions….

Please send us a quick message if you have any questions.

What if my husband does not want to join me in parent training? Can I come by myself?
Yes. It is ideal if both parents can attend sessions at least some of the time. Since our sessions are telehealth, it is easier to attend through video and we will make every effort to include both parents if they are willing.

However, we are aware that there are circumstances where both parents will not be able to attend. We will work with you to accommodate your needs. It is better for one of you to attend and obtain the parent training than not attend at all.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD’S BEHAVIOR IS NORMAL OR IF WE SHOULD SEEK PARENT TRAINING?

If you feel overwhelmed by the many expectations of parenting, exhausted, or just need support, we are here for you! Also, if you need some direction in providing structure, routines, or discipline strategies at home, parent training can help. In addition, if you notice your child withdrawing or isolating themselves from friends and family, lacking motivation, or becoming disinterested in activities that they once enjoyed, then you know it is time to seek help. Or if you see a drop in your child’s school performance, or if they are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, sleep issues, or difficulty concentrating, this might be a time to check in with us.
Regardless of the reason, it is important to know that you are not alone and there is a place to go for support. Also, therapy can result in growth even if significant, noteworthy symptoms are not present and you just need an objective, supportive therapeutic relationship to navigate the rollercoaster ride of parenting. It is not an easy job!
