College Transition Team

Paving the way for Young Adults on the Journey Toward Growth and Independence

Our Mission as the College Transition Team is to provide Preventative Care to young adults through evidence-based treatment, multimodal therapies, and a holistic collaborative approach.

The College Transition Team was born out of 20 years of Clinical Experience seeing young adults consistently come home from college, failing to thrive independently due to a lack of coping skills and overwhelming mental health issues

Often, we saw traditional universities, hospitals, and outpatient facilities unable to handle the increasing mental health needs of college students. Therefore, we are filling a need to preventitively provide transitional mental health care, where students can have the ability to live independently and explore their own lives, while also having the support that they need when they are struggling with the obstacles that come with young adulthood.

Communication between providers is ESSENTIAL to treatment success. So often, we see psychiatrists, (the medication prescribers), and the therapists, (who regularly speak to the clients) lack a clear understanding of what is going on with the client due to lack of regular communication. Therefore, in our College Transition Team, our psychiatrists and therapists are in constant communication with each other and work collaboratively; giving regular updates on medication changes as well as changes in life situations. This ensures that our team is providing the highest quality care to our clients as we are treating them with the most up to date information, even if the client is unable to communicate that information.

The College Transition Team understands the difficulties that adolescents face when they are transitioning from high school to college. We are prepared for the avoidance of difficult tasks, the procrastination when overwhelm hits, and the desire to put the covers over one’s head when depressed. We are prepared for the panic, the anxiety, the rejection, and the peer conflict. We are here and ready to support your child as they face these situations, to intervene before they happen, or to monitor them, before it’s too late.
